Bonecas do Ricos - A traditional biscuit from Vila de Rei made with ingredients available in the old days - aniseed, flour, a little sugar, eggs, lemon zest.... but as they contained more expensive ingredients, they were largely intended to be sold to the "rich" at fairs and Sunday markets.
On the other hand, there were also the dolls of the poor – which were made only with bread dough and sugar… but of which only the story remains, as they are no longer produced.
These handmade biscuits are ideal to enjoy with coffee, tea or honey. They can also be given as gifts , highlighting Portuguese traditions.
